Sonitrol Great Lakes Thwarts Detroit Library Break-in

Verified security system prevents property loss, damage

GRAND BLANC, Mich. – Oct. 10, 2016 – A Sonitrol Great Lakes monitoring center operator helped Detroit Police and private security personnel apprehend one person during a break-in at a city library branch on Saturday night, Oct. 8.

The Sonitrol operator was alerted to suspicious activity at the Detroit Public Library’s Abraham Lincoln Branch on East Seven Mile Road. The operator verified the illegal entry, and dispatched Detroit Police and the library’s private security company to the library, where police took an individual into custody.

The apprehension was achieved through Sonitrol Audio Verification technology, a unique system which triggers an alert at the sounds of an intrusion. At the Sonitrol Great Lakes Central Monitoring Station in Grand Blanc, trained monitoring operators can listen live to verify an intrusion and notify local law enforcement.

The incident serves as a reminder that public buildings such as schools and libraries are especially vulnerable to crime, vandalism, burglary and other criminal acts, as many facilities have fewer staff members and security officers on hand.

Sonitrol Great Lakes provides Michigan public buildings and businesses with a single source of integrated, state-of-the-art security solutions. Sonitrol has the best apprehension rate in the industry, and the fewest dispatches for false alarms.
